How to configure NetFlow on Cisco Routers?


The Application Note: Automating the configuration of routers for NetFlow export served as the basis for this post.

It would help if you modified a Cisco router’s configuration for it to export NetFlow records to an Entuity server. Through Entuity configuration management, you can accomplish this.

To implement the configuration changes, two tasks will be used:

  1. one to carry out the device-level adjustments.
  2. One who will alter the port level.
  3. The configuration automation tasks can then be used.

Each internetworking device with NetFlow enabled can separately capture and export NetFlow data. Each router in the network does not need to be running NetFlow.

Using the Version 9 Export Format to Configure NetFlow and Export NetFlow Data

Configure NetFlow and NetFlow Data Export using the Version 9 export format by completing this step.

  • enable
  • set up the terminal
  • ip flow-export destination {ip-address | hostname} udp-port
  • To create a second NetFlow export destination, repeat Step 3 once again
  • Ip Flow Export Version 9
  • Interface interface-type interface number
  • Ip flow¬† {ingress | egress}
  • exit
  • Repetition of steps 6 through 8 will enable NetFlow on additional interfaces.
